I cannot believe that the game is so massive that 42.1 GB is the best that could be done. I actively cannot download the game because of this, because if I do then that combined with the rest of the household usage will put us over our 250GB data cap this month. It makes no sense whatsoever for the download size to be exactly the same as the size on disk. There has to be something that can be done to reduce the download size further. However this also means the games installation size is bigger than the Linux or Windows versions. The Mac version does have more savings compared to Linux as it has some uncompressed texture files in the data for performance reasons. In the case of Mordor it is just a really big game and the data has already been compressed as much as possible. Some games use uncompressed data which means their download size is much smaller than their install size. However a large amount of the data for Mordor is compressed textures and video which are already compressed meaning you don't get much saving by compressing them a second time for downloading. The game is compressed by Steam for downloading automatically just like all other games on Steam.
